Patrolman Raymond Barnes became the newest member of the force this week, following approval by the Board of Selectmen.
Barnes was one of about 12 officers to inquire about making a lateral transfer to join the Lynnfield force and was chosen from three finalists.
He has been with the Peabody force since 1997, and also brings a wide variety of certifications with him that will be of value to the Lynnfield force. He is certified as a firearms instructor, less lethal shotgun instructor, taser instructor, defensive tactics instructor, CPR instructor and first responder.
Barnes is also a certified underwater criminal investigator and has an open water diver certification from PADI.
"We're very happy to have someone of his caliber," Police Chief David Breen told selectmen, noting that Barnes' variety of certifications means that he will not require training in those areas.
Town Administrator Bill Gustus also had strong praise for Barnes, having interviewed him as a finalist.
"It just presents a picture of a very professional and dedicated officer," said Gustus of Barnes' background.
