Man Arrested For Operating Under Influence Of Heroin

Information provided by the Wakefield Police. Where arrests are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A Lynnfield man was arrested in Wakefield for allegedly driving under the influence of drugs. Wakefield Police said that Derek Holmes, 32, of Lynnfield, was seen operating a brown Honda at a high rate of speed on Salem Street. Police said they watched the vehicle pull into the Sunoco gas station on Salem Street and park without headlights on for about 20 minutes. As he left the gas station, police enacted a traffic stop.

During the stop, police said they found several syringes in the back seat of the car, and Holmes seemed to have a hard time answering questions, police said, appearing to them to be under the influence of narcotics. Police conducted a field sobriety test, which Holmes allegedly failed. He was taken into custody and charged with a motor-vehicle lights violation and driving under the influence of heroin out of Malden District Court.
