Lynnfield Police, Fire Personnel Assisted With Blast Response

Explosion shook region shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday.

Police and fire units from many surrounding communities, including Lynnfield, were among those responding to the scene of the Bostik plant explosion in Middleton shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday night.  

Fire Chief Tom Bogart told Lynnfield Patch on Monday that he and Assistant Chief John Walsh responded to the scene ahead of the town's fire apparatus, which was dispatched at 7:59 p.m. on Sunday night.

Lynnfield's Engine 1 and Ladder 1, as well as Rescue 1 and Rescue 2, responded to the fire scene on Boston Street in Middleton. The chief added that Rescue 1 transported one of the victims to the hospital, while the town's units remained on the scene until 12:26 a.m.

Police Chief David Breen reported that Lynnfield officers assisted with traffic control, specifically by re-routing motorists down Catherine Drive in Peabody to Lowell Street.

Four workers were injured in the blast and ensuing fire.  Bostik specializes in making adhesives and sealants.
