Lynnfield Police Announce Provisional Promotions

Johnson, Mayerson gain new responsibilities.

Chief David Breen announced this week that the state's Human Resource Division has approved provisional promotions for two of the town's law enforcement personnel.

According to the department, Karl Johnson, the town's most senior sergeant, has been promoted to captain and will serve as Breen's executive officer.

"We will be working closely on budgetary issues, policy and procedure changes, and staffing issues," said Breen. "I look forward to having Captain Johnson assisting me on these and other issues."

Also, the department announced that Patrolman David Mayerson has been promoted to Sergeant and will serve as the officer in charge of the midnight shift. "I will also rely on Sergeant Mayerson for his expertise in computer technology, software and mobile technology," added Breen.  Mayerson has 34 years of service to the Lynnfield Police Department.

To further ease a staffing shortage that has affected the department recently, Breen added that the human resources division has approved the transfer of Officer Mark Bettencourt from the Peabody to the Lynnfield Police Department. Officer Bettencourt has been nine years of experience and is expected to serve on the midnight shift.
