Lynnfield Man Charged With OUI After Crash

Information is provided by the Massachusetts State Police. Where an arrest is mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

State Police charged a 42-year-old Lynnfield man with OUI early Tuesday morning after a two-car crash on Route 1 that sent two people to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

According to a report from the state police, troopers arrived on the scene of the early morning crash on Route 1 South in Lynnfield and found debris strewn across the entire span of the road.

Troopers Sean Stowe and Lisa Cote-Barthelmess reported spotting Keith Wescott, 42, of Lynnfield, near his car and allegedly observed him to be unsteady on his feet, swaying back and forth, and with a heavy odor of alcohol on his breath as well as bloodshot eyes.

The report indicated that Wescott was arrested after field sobriety tests were performed. Lynnfield Police and personnel from the State Highway Department were also working on the scene. Route 1 South was closed for about 15 minutes as a result of the crash, which is still reportedly under investigation.

State Police also reported that Westcott's year-old son was home alone at the time of the incident. Lynnfield Police went to his home, located the child, contacted child services, and placed the child in the care of a relative, the State Police communications office told Lynnfield Patch on Tuesday.

Two people were in the other car that was involved in the Route 1 crash. Both of them were transported to North Shore Medical Center in Lynn with non-life threatening injuries, reported the state police.

Along with OUI, state police charged Wescott with negligent operation of a motor vehicle, speeding and a marked lanes violation. He was expected to appear in Peabody District Court on Tuesday.
