The Lynnfield Fire Department responded to a house fire shortly after 11 p.m. at 3 Norris Road on Saturday evening.

According to Fire Chief Thomas Bogart, the fire started in a dehumidifier unit in a confined area of the basement of the single family home.

The fire reportedly caused extensive smoke damage throughout the house, while the finished basement suffered significant damage from the fire itself. The chief also reported that firefighters located, confined and extinguished the fire in its room of origin, and they stayed at the scene until 12:08 a.m.

A family of four, the Ross family, reportedly lives at the address, including two small children. In fact, Bogart noted that Darren Ross is the son of retired Lynnfield Deputy Fire Chief Donald Ross.

“I cannot emphasis the importance of working home smoke detectors enough,” said Chief Bogart.  “If it were not for the early warning smoke detector gave, the outcome of this fire could have been disastrous."

"The residents – including two small children - were alerted to the existence of the fire and quickly escaped without any injuries. Make sure you have working smoke detectors in your home and be sure to maintain them.  They can save your live in the event of a fire."
