Lynnfield 9/11 Committee Set To Donate Remaining Funds

Funds left over from town's 9/11 observance to benefit the Ace Bailey Children's Foundation and the UFA Widow's and Children's Fund.

The Lynnfield 911 Committee that worked through the summer to organize a day of memorial for the 10th anniversary of the September 11th attacks is wrapping up its business and preparing to donate its remaining funds to charity.

At Tuesday night's wrap-up meeting, committee treasurer Janice Casoli reported that $3,528.91 remains on hand, which will be divided between two charitable organizations - the Ace Bailey Children's Foundation and the Uniformed Firefighters Association Widow's and Children's Fund.

The cost of the 911 observation was around $2,300, with much of that sum used to purchase the nearly 3,000 flags that adorned the open space across from the town common for two weeks this month. Other expenses included the banner for the event, flowers and advertising. Each flag was used to represent an individual who died in the attacks of September 11th, 2001.

The funds will be kept in the Lynnfield 911 account until October 20th, after which the account will be closed and the checks will be mailed.

Meanwhile, a number of people who participated in the 9/11 memorial or attended it this month  took a flag from the outdoor display as a keepsake. The committee is currently looking into donating a number of the remaining flags to be used in Lynnfield's schools.

Looking ahead, Reverend Dennis Bailey, main organizer of the Lynnfield 911 memorial, noted that the town is unlikely to see an observation of this magnitude in the near term. However, he noted that he and other town clergy and first responders will continue to do the 8:30 a.m. memorial service at fire headquarters that they have done each September 11th for the past decade.
