What Is The Story With This Marker?

Marker is at Walnut and Summer streets not far from Pillings Pond.

This week - I set out to finally get the answer to a question that I myself had about town - what is that historic marker with the flag at Walnut and Summer streets?

The answer is an appropriate one to mention during Veterans Day weekend - that plaque and flag mark the site of the home of Daniel Townsend, .

You can read some more about Townsend in this Google Books excerpt from "Lynn in the Revolution."

I grew up in that house and remember when it was erected. I can remember the stone cutter chipping away and watching him for hours. Daniel Townshend's grave is in the cemetery across from the common.

Good morning Dorothy - what an amazing place to grow up in - old historic houses are my favorite by far. Back on Patriots Day, I did a short local history piece that mentioned Townsend: http://lynnfield.patch.com/articles/video-photos-lynnfielders-answered-the-call-on-april-18-1775#photo-5697643
