Obituary: William F. Whitney, 79

Groveland – William F. Whitney, 79, of Groveland, died Saturday, October 26, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House after a lengthy illness. 

Born in Wakefield, he was the son of the late, Robert O. and Nancy (Russo) Whitney. He was raised and educated in Lynnfield, Ma and attended Lynnfield High School. 

Mr. Whitney was employed by Leo Letoile as a roofer, he then became the Superintendent for the Groveland Manor Apartments in Groveland for forty-two years, retiring in 2012.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and looked forward to every opportunity to spend time hunting with his sons and grandsons. He also enjoyed playing BINGO.

He leaves his beloved wife of sixty years, Mary R. (DiBlasi) Whitney, of Groveland, four sons, Robert W. Whitney and his wife, Sandra, of Kingston, NH, John F. Whitney, of Marlborough, William F. Whitney and his wife Sonya, of Seabrook, NH, and Nelson J. Whitney and his wife, Anna of Jay, ME, a daughter, Vera E. DiFalco and her husband, Greg, of Newton; NH, three sisters, Virginia Whitney, Joan Lightfoot and her husband, David, and Linda Weldy and her husband, Norman, all of Florida, nine grandchildren, Robert, Jeffrey, and William Whitney, Sasha, Braun and Hunter Whitney, Tara Wood, Tiah Stiles, Scott Schrempf, and Great grandchildren, Logan, Colin, Jeffrey, Jake, Ava ,Autumn, David, Emma, Makayla, James, and Haley and several nieces and nephews.

 Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Thursday morning from 9:30 until 11:30 AM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. (Rte 125) Haverhill, followed by A Mass of Christian Burial to be Celebrated at 12:00 Noon in St. Patrick’s Church, Center St. Groveland.
