NSSC: Olympic Dreams and Sunshine States

NSSC: Olympic Dreams, and Sunshine States

It has been a busy year, and season for the coaches, and swimmers of North Shore Swim Club; as it always is heading into an Olympic year. And it shows no sign of slowing down any time soon.

The past three weeks have been the busiest yet holding a mid-season championship style meet at MIT, with Olympic last chance qualifier time trials happening. The team helped six swimmers realize a life long dream that weekend. Including their own teammate and coach Mat O’Brien who made is 100meter fly cut in a time of 54.68 (Olympic trial standard is 55.29), while making the cut he also broke his own club record that he put on the books three years ago. Mat will compete in the 100 meter fly Olympic trail preliminary races on Saturday June 30th at 12:20pm out in Omaha.

Last weekend 26 of the 75 swimmers that qualified for the Swim Fort Lauderdale International Classic traveled to the sunshine state to compete against 44 other teams. Including teams from Mexico, South Africa, and many teams from inside the USA. North Shore Swim Club came in 21st out of all those teams. It was a great honor and experience to qualifiy so many, and then have the kids that traveled down do so well.
