Then And Now: Harvey's Grocery Store

Lynnfield Patch occasionally runs photos from the files of the Lynnfield Historical Society and compares them to what's there today.

In 2013, Lynnfielders will have a Whole Foods. But a century or so ago, Harvey's Grocery was at least one local option.

A note with this photo says that the grocery store was located at the corner of Salem Street and what is now Route 1.

Further research turned up a reference to this grocery store in the Images of America Lynnfield book done by Warren H. Falls. For those who have a copy, the other image is on page 116 of that book and shows the long-ago grocery store in some deep snow.

The book states the store was next to the former Chemical 2 (fire station) at that intersection and was later run by E. Harvey, son of the original founder. It was also reportedly home at times to the post office.
