PHOTOS: Girl Scout Bridging Ceremony

179 Girl Scouts participated in annual bridging ceremony Tuesday night. Carly Craffey and Ava Landry earn Gold awards.

As their proud parents and some local officials looked on, 179 Lynnfield Girl Scouts participated in their annual Bridging ceremony Tuesday night at the .

A total of four Daisy troops, five Brownie troops, five Junior troops, two Cadette troops and a senior troop participated, with members basically moving along to a new level.

House Republican Leader Brad Jones, who represents Lynnfield on Beacon Hill, was at the ceremony and presented the girls with citations from the State Legislature. Selectman Dave Nelson gave them proclamations from the town as well.

"I think it's a testament to every one of your dedication, your determination and your pride," Nelson told the girls. "It sets an example for us all."

Along with the bridging ceremony, some girls were also recipients of Gold, Silver and Bronze awards. The girls received these awards based on some of their recent service projects, with Junior Troop 60186 receiving awards .

Barbara Fortier, the Chief Operating Officer of Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts, told the audience that the gold award is particularly special because only 5.4% of all Girl Scouts attain it. She added that about 1,400 girls in Eastern Massachusetts have earned the award since 1982.

Noting the sizeable crowd that filled the middle school auditorium, she also called it "a real testament to how strong girl scouting is in this community."

Bronze Award Recipients: Shelby Considine (Junior Troop 66345), Willa MacLennan, Lucy Madden, Ann Olsen, Stephanie Robles, Molly Smedira, Emily Strout, Natalie Tardito and Alexa Vittiglio (all from Junior Troop 60186).

Silver Award Recipients: Meryl Braconnier, Katrina Gustafson, Becca Sievers, Hayley Timmons (Cadette Troop 60071).
