Meet Georgia Arnett, Student Athlete

Arnett family moved to Lynnfield from Pennsylvania.

It's not always easy for a young person to move to a new town, but for 6th grader Georgia Arnett, the transition seems to have gone about as well as it could.

The Lynnfield Middle School student moved to town from King of Prussia, Pennsylvania with her family. Her father, Paul, is a Coast Guard Commander in the Boston area who has also worked in Washington, D.C. for the Department of Homeland Security. Her mother is Lisa Arnett, a Lynnfield native who graduated from LHS. Georgia also has a sister and brother, Sydni and Luke.

Moving to Lynnfield has allowed the family to spend considerably more time together as well. During his time working in Washington, Paul had an apartment in that city with the family home back in King of Prussia, which is in the Philadelphia area. The family lived in Pennsylvania for 17 years and in July will mark their third year in Lynnfield.

"I thought it was going to be a little weird, but when I heard I had my cousin (in the area), I knew it wouldn't be as hard," said Georgia, who was a student of the week at the middle school back in December.

Georgia is active in several sports, including skiing, soccer and softball, and her favorite class is math. Her and her friends are also into roller skating, making Youtube videos, and outdoor sports in general.

Along with being a student-athlete though, Georgia has also stood out in another way - by intervening in two separate school bullying incidents now on behalf of friends. One time, she saw her friend being dragged across a playground by some bullies and promptly went to get help from teachers and the school principal. Another time, she intervened to break up a fight on a school bus.

When asked what motivated her to get involved in that situation, Georgia replied that she basically likes to get in there and help others.

At this point, Georgia would love to be a professional softball player, and she is unsure at this point if she would be interested in a military career like her father. Looking ahead to high school, she hopes to someday play soccer or softball for the LHS Pioneers. Her sister, Sydni, 19, played softball for Suffolk University until a shoulder injury occurred.

Overall, it's never easy moving to a new town. But with some strong family ties and a great attitude, chances are things will usually work out pretty well.
