Then And Now: Mr. Kallenberg Himself

Each week, Lynnfield Patch runs a photo from the files of the Lynnfield Historical Society and compares it to what's there today.

Last week, this column , possibly a century or so ago and possibly even before the Kallenberg Quarry was located up in that area. Another past " where decades later, the future "" mural would end up being painted.

However, here's something slightly different. Many Lynnfielders know that Kallenberg Quarry was owned by a Mr. Kallenberg, and not much more. So here's a face to go with the name.

Kallenberg was the great-grandfather of Lynnfield resident Ruth McMahon, . Kallenberg was a teacher in Sweden and worked at a quarry in Quincy before buying the one in Lynnfield and re-naming it after himself around 1896. He died in 1913 and the land stayed in the family until much of it became town conservation land in the 1960s. A search of "Bow Ridge Reservation" on this website will bring up a number of outdoor photo galleries shot there at different times of the year.
