Local Author Discusses History of Howard Johnson's Tonight

Local author and historian Anthony Sammarco discusses his book on the legendary restaurant chain tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Old Meeting House.

The Lynnfield Historical Society will present a program titled ”Howard Johnson’s – 28 Flavors” at its upcoming meeting, on Tuesday, November 19.  Its guest speaker will be Anthony Sammarco, the noted local historian and author.

Sammarco will present a slide lecture and will speak about the history of the iconic Howard Johnson restaurant and hotel chain which began in Quincy during the 1920’s. The talk is based upon Sammarco’s upcoming book, “A History of Howard Johnson’s:  How a Massachusetts Soda Fountain Became an American Icon."

Sammarco is the author of over sixty books on the history of Boston, He teaches history at the Urban College of Boston, where he was named educator of the year in 2003 and where he serves on the Leadership Council. He is the recipient of many awards for his work, and is: a fellow of the Massachusetts Historical Society; a member of the Boston Authors’ Club; and a proprietor of the Boston Athenaeum. Sammarco resides in Boston and Osterville.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 19 at 7:30 pm in the 1714 Meeting House.  The public is welcome.
