Military History Day at the Wenham Museum
Salute the service of American veterans at Wenham Museum’s Military History Day, Saturday July 13th from 10 am until 3:30 pm.
Enjoy a fun—yet historic—look at army life with veterans and re-enactors on hand to swap stories, share memorabilia and help you explore inside authentic World War II vehicles on the museum’s lawn.
Experience the heroic story of World War II veteran John Katsaros, a young aerial gunner who bravely saved his fellow soldiers after being shot down on a raid to destroy a German aircraft factory. Listen as Mr. Katsaros regales us with his stories of suffering as a prisoner of war to hiding in a well while avoiding arrest by the German Gestapo. Mr. Katsaros will be signing copies of his book, Code Burgundy- The Long Escape, in which he releases previously government-classified details of his remarkable experiences in World War II. He was held, “under secrecy oath by the government and, under heavy penalty of punishment” for 60 years before he was finally given the clearance to tell his story. His extraordinary story and astounding willpower make this a can’t-miss event.
