From Adversaries to Partners: The Growing Trend of Municipal Collaboration in Retail Development
How municipalities are progressively evolving zoning bylaws to pave way for next generation retail developments

When planning new retail development, Economic Development Teams, Planning Departments, Developers and Retailers all have their own set of objectives that they seek to achieve. Increasingly, the parties are collaborating early in the process as partners in an effort to create projects that are mutually beneficial to all parties. Please join the Boston Next Generation committee to learn more on the permitting process surrounding today’s retail developments. We will present how modifications to zoning regulations, compromises made by each party, and a collaborative process bring forward projects that are favorable to the community, bridge a municipality’s redevelopment initiatives with physical site requirements of the retailers and create a sound economic return for the developer.
