Lynnfield Library Announces January Events

January's offerings range from new programs to a Chinese New Year party.

The board of trustees meets at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3 with a snow date of Tuesday, Jan. 10.

On Friday, Jan. 6, the library’s First Friday Fiesta Story Time kicks off for 2012 with a new time of 3:30 p.m. Stories and songs in both English and Spanish are featured. On Saturday, Jan. 7 at 10 a.m., the library kicks off a new program – family storytime, which will meet on the first Saturday of the month from now on.

January 7 at noon, the Teen Brunch Book Club meets, with Lucy Christopher’s “Stolen” on the agenda this month. Another new library program starts that Saturday from 3 to 4 p.m. – Drop-In Game Day, where siblings and friends can come in to play a different game each month. This month’s game is Uno.

The Curious About Cuisine group meets on Wednesday, Jan. 11 from 3 to 4 p.m. with “Around The World On A Loaf Of Bread” the theme. That evening at 6:30 p.m., bring the kids by for a Soup-er Pajama Party featuring stories like Stone Soup and Monkey Soup, as well as a pot of soup and crafts.

The Friends of the Library Board meets from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 12, while the library will close for Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 16.

On Wednesday, Jan. 18, the children’s librarians will have a Todd Arnold birthday party, to highlight the author of the Fly Guy series and other children’s books.

The Afternoon Discovery group, for middle school students interested in science and technology, meets at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19. January’s theme will focus on the chemistry involved in making popcorn.

That evening from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., the BookLovers group meets to disuss “In Patagonia” by Bruce Chatwin.

On Monday, Jan. 23, it’s a Chinese New Year party in the children’s room at 3:45 p.m. to mark the Year of the Dragon with stories and a craft.

On Tuesday, Jan. 31 from 6 to 7 p.m., children aged 6 and up are invited to a Lego party. The library supplies the Legos.
