Kid-Friendly Fun: Lynnfield Library and Partridge Island Boardwalk

If you're bringing the kids on a visit to Lynnfield, one good tip is to check the town library's website to see if any activities are planned for that particular day.

The Lynnfield Library maintains an active calendar of events in any given month, with a particular emphasis on children's activities.

The library has regularly-scheduled story times for children of different age groups, from birth upward, on various days of the week. Past events have ranged from a birthday party for Dr. Seuss to evenings featuring games and snacks from around the world.

Partridge Island Boardwalk

Another fun option is to bring the kids to check out the , located off Main Street no more than a half mile from the Route 128 ramp. Reedy Meadow happens to be the largest freshwater cattail marsh in the state of Massachusetts, and is a popular as well.

The boardwalk was completely renovated in recent months with help from the Rotary Club and others. In the near future, a new sign will also be posted as the site to make it more easier to spot.

One option is to park at the end of New Meadow Road, off Main Street, and cross the street to the beginning of the Reedy Meadow site. A short path, perhaps several hundred feet long, leads to the boardwalk itself.

A short way out onto the boardwalk, there is a bench for resting and observing the natural surroundings. A walk of several hundred additional feet leads to Partridge Island, which has a small trail system of its own. However, passage here remains difficult because of overgrowth and fallen trees. Access to the island . Otherwise, the island is surrounded by thick marsh land.
