Five Things You Need To Know: September 9

Town's 9/11 memorial ceremonies begin at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Today is Friday, September 9. Here are five things you need to know:

Lynnfield 911 Memorial: The town's day of 911 memorial activities will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday morning with a service in front of the fire department headquarters on Summer Street. Volunteers will spend much of the afternoon on the town common reading the names of those who died in the attacks on September 11th, 2001, and there will be a service at 6 p.m. for the community with Kathy Bailey, widow of Ace Bailey, speaking. The full schedule can be viewed on the Lynnfield 911 website.

Cub Scouts: Cub Scout signups for boys in Lynnfield will be Tuesday, September 13th at 6:30 p.m. at the .  Cub scouts is open to boys in grades 1-5.   Pack 47 (Huckleberry Hill School) and Pack 48 (Summer Street School) will both be there.  For more information, contact Jeff or Lauren West at 781-593-7567 or laurencwest@yahoo.com

Geneaology: If you want to learn more about researching your family tree, check out this event on Saturday, September 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the . The day will feature lectures and displays from various area genealogical groups, including the Essex and Massachusetts societies of genealogists. Pioneer Sports: Today at 3:45 p.m., the girls varsity soccer team plays at home against Newburyport while the JV teams also play at that time. Girls varsity field hockey is on the road against Hamilton Wenham at 3:45 p.m., with the JV game at 5:15 p.m., and the girls varsity volleyball team plays at Salem at 4 p.m. with a varsity matchup at 5:30 p.m.

Cars and Coffee: This Saturday, September 10th from 7 to 10 a.m., the Herb Chambers dealership at 385 Broadway is hosting a "Cars and Coffee" event. Rain date is Saturday, September 17th.
