Girls volleyball team defends undefeated record today and raises cash for cancer research.

Today is Wednesday, October 12th. Here are five things you need to know.

Pioneer Sports: The varsity cross country team has a 3:45 p.m. home meet against Newburyport/Ipswich. At 4 p.m., the girls varsity volleyball team is at home against Lexington, with a junior varsity game at 5:30 p.m.

Bake Sale For Cancer Research: Speaking of Pioneer sports, today before their 4 p.m. game at LHS, the girls volleyball team is having a large bake sale to raise money and awareness for breast cancer and ovarian cancer research.

Looking For A Babysitter Friday? This Friday night, Lynnfield's 9th grade Cadette Girl Scout Troop 60452 will be raising funds for a trip next summer. You can bring your kids, aged 4-10 to the Centre Congregational Church basement and from 6 to 9 p.m., they will keep the kids entertained with crafts, a movie and pizza. Many of the girls are also first aid and CPR certified. $15 for one child, $25 for two siblings, and $30 for three or more. Pumpkin Breakfast: At 8 a.m. this Friday, October 14th, the Lynnfield Senior Center is having its Pumpkin Breakfast - $3 at the door. At 8:30 a.m., Lynnfield firefighter/EMT Jimmy Alexander will answer questions involving emergency medical calls.

Health Fair/Open House: Looking ahead to next week, the Lynnfield Senior Center on Salem Street has a health fair/open house on Tuesday, October 18th from 9 a.m. to noon. More than 40 vendors are  expected to be on hand. Drop by and try some free samples or get health screenings for blood pressure, hearing, bone density and more.
