Five Things You Need To Know: May 4

Today is Wednesday, May 4. Here are five things you need to know.

Town Business: The School Building Committee meets at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the selectmen's room at town hall, while there is an assessors meeting at 5 p.m. in the assessor's office, also at town hall.

Author Appearance: Tonight at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Sweetser Lecture Series, Gail Lowe, author of "Former Things" is scheduled to be interviewed by local cable personality Cheryl Webb Scott at the Wakefield-Lynnfield United Methodist Church at 273 Vernon Street in Wakefield. Tickets are $10 at the door.

LHS Pioneer Sports: At 3:30 p.m. there is a varsity track meet at home against Pentucket High School. The girls varsity and junior varsity softball teams both play Manchester Essex Regional High School at home at 3:45. Also, the girls varsity tennis team has a 3:30 p.m. meet meet against Rockport.

Cinco de Mayo At The Library: Tomorrow at 3:45 p.m. the will hold a Cinco de Mayo celebration featuring stories about the holiday, a craft, some songs in Spanish and refreshments. All ages are welcome.

Blood Drive This Weekend: If you're planning to attend the Arbor Day celebration on Saturday or will otherwise be in town, consider stopping by the between 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. to donate blood. The blood drive is organized by the Precourt family and Girl Scout Troop 60528 in honor of Carolyn T. Black, who died from e.coli poisoning after eating tainted beef.
