Five Things You Need To Know: March 30

Registration, website for 2012 Reid's Ride is now up and running.

Today is Friday, March 30. Here are five things you need to know.

Reids Ride: The Reid Sacco Memorial Foundation announced this week that online registration is now underway for the 8th annual Reid’s Ride, which is on July 15, 2012. Cyclists make the 28-mile ride from Lynnfield High School to Stagefort Park in Gloucester and raise money for children’s cancer research. Your local Patch editor plans to do the ride for the second time this year, and based on last year's numbers, about 400 or so others are planning to do it as well. It’s fun and you’re done before noon. There’s also a nice outdoor party at the finish line with food and music, etc. To register or to learn more, click here.

Synchronized Swimming: At least two Lynnfielders are members of the North Shore YMCA Selkies synchronized swimming team. This Sunday, April 1 at 4 p.m., you can check out their annual “Synchro is Magical” show at Sterling YMCA, 254 Essex Street in Beverly. Tickets are $7 ($5 for those over age 55 or under 5), and there will also be a bake sale and raffle fundraiser for the team. More information on the Selkies can be found at NorthShoreSelkies.wordpress.com

Anna Tourkakis: Mark your calendars for Wednesday, April 11 and drop by the next Curious About Cuisine meeting at the Lynnfield Library from 3 to 4 p.m. Meet Anna Tourkakis, Lynnfield-based author of the cookbook “Delicious Simplicity” whose columns have also appeared on Lynnfield Patch.  The cookbook features healthy and delicious recipes with a Mediterranean influence that are also easy to prepare.

Girl Scout Dog Show: A Lynnfield event is coming up this Saturday from 12 to 2 p.m. on the Town Common. Girl Scout Troop 60186 is holding a dog show with prizes for different categories. The $5 entry fee will help raise money for local animal shelters, and the girls will also be collecting donated items for the shelters, including pet food, blankets, cat litter, string cheese and more. .

This year's Job Shadowing days in Lynnfield are Tuesday, May 22 and Wednesday, May 23. If your business would like to get involved, email shadow@lbchome.org.
