Five Things You Need To Know: March 14

Today is Wednesday, March 14. Here are five things you needto know.

Townscape: Next time you're at the Lynnfield Library, you can help support the local beautification efforts of Townscape by purchasing one of the organization’s stickers for just $2. And speaking of Townscape, the annual Geraniumfest celebration isn’t far – it's on May 19th this year.

Street Sweeping: The Town DPW has announced that its annual street sweeping program begins on March 19 this year, weather permitting. American Sweeping iscontracted to do the work, which will last through the month of April – first onthe main streets and then into the various residential neighborhoods. Residentscan sweep winter sand from driveways and sidewalks into the gutter area to beswept away, but things like stones, branches and leaves cannot be picked up bythe machines. The DPW will provide a list of the streets to be swept next onits website each Monday. Residents can call 781-334-9500 with questions.

The Portuguese Table: Today, the Curious About Cuisine group meets at the library at 3 p.m. Group members will welcome local author Ana Ortins for a presentation on Portuguese cuisine. Call Nancy Ryan at 781-334-5411 or email ryan@noblenet.org for more information.

Golf At Sagamore: Sagamore Spring Golf Course reports that it isopening today at 8 a.m., with walking only plus one temporary green on hole#10. The course hopes to be able to have golf carts going out by Saturday butgolfers are advised to call ahead at 781-334-3151 or check its social media pages.

Kindergarten Parents Orientation: Lynnfield parents of all incoming kindergarten students for fall 2012 are invited to attend an Orientation Night on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 7 p.m. at Huckleberry Hill School. Please note screening appointments will be held during the week of April 2 for Huckleberry Hill School and the week of April 24 for Summer Street School.  Parents new to Lynnfield who did not receive a written invitation to the above Orientation should contact their respective school ASAP to assure receipt of a registration packet and screening appointment for their child.  Children who hope to attend kindergarten this fall must be 5 years old by September 1, 2012.  Any questions should be directed to Linda LaGreca (HHS) at 781-334-5835 or email lagrecal@lynnfield.k12.ma.us or Lori Murphy (SSS) at 781-334-5830 or email murphylo@lynnfield.k12.ma.us.
