Five Things You Need To Know: March 1

Kuestenmacher Scholarship applications now available at LHS Guidance Office. Deadline is April 30.

Today is Thursday, March 1. Here are five things you need to know.

Kuestenmacher Scholarship: The Walter and Elizabeth Kuestenmacher Scholarship Fund Committee has announced the availability of two scholarships for the 2012-2013 academic year. The fund provides for two annual scholarships to be awarded to worthy graduates of who shall manifest a serious desire to embrace a career in one of the health professions.  Past as well as present graduates are eligible. Scholarship applications may be obtained at Lynnfield High School Guidance Office or at the Superintendent of Schools Office at Town Hall. Applications must be received by Monday, April 30, 2012.

LHS Playoffs: Last night’s scheduled girls basketball playoff game was postponed due to weather. The LHS girls now play Stoneham tonight at 7 p.m. in that town.  Also, the boys basketball team takes on North Shore Tech. tonight at 7 p.m. at LHS in Round 1 of the MIAA Tournament. The LHS team is seeded 7 of 10, while North Shore Tech. Is the #10 seed.

Osteoporosis Screenings: On Tuesday, March 6 starting at noon, Jennifer Donnelly of Winchester Hospital will be at the Lynnfield Senior Center with an Achilles Express Bone Density machine for osteoporosis screenings. Appointments take about 10 minutes and can be arranged at the senior center’s front desk.

Integrated Preschool Program:  Lynnfield’s Integrated Preschool Program will host an information night including an overview of the Preschool program and registration on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at 7 p.m. at the Lynnfield Preschool, located at 525 Salem Street.  This program is available to all preschool age children (2.9 yrs. old on or before September 1, 2012).  Parents are invited to come and learn about the program, which offers a language based, multi-sensory approach to academic and social readiness skills. Call the Special Services Office with any questions at 781-581-5140.

Teen Brunch Book Cub: On the first Saturday of the month, the hosts the Teen Brunch Book Club. This weekend’s meeting is Saturday, March 3 at noon. Teens aged 13 and up are invited to come and discuss the book Blink & Caution by Tim Wynne-Jones.
