Five Things You Need To Know: June 6

Two LHS teams still in MIAA tournament. Final LHS coffee house event of the year is tonight.

Today is Wednesday, June 6. Here are five things you need to know.

MIAA Tournament: In Tuesday’s MIAA Tournament action, the girls tennis team advanced to the semifinal game against Bedford by defeating Lowell Catholic 5-0. The semifinal game is today (Wednesday) at 3 p.m. Winner of this match goes on to the North Division 3 final against either North Reading or Ipswich.

Also Tuesday, the baseball team defeated St. Mary’s, 4-2, at LHS. They now move on to the semifinal game, day and time and location TBA as of Tuesday evening, against either Watertown or Bishop Fenwick.

The LHS girls softball team lost to Matignon, 7-0 Tuesday at LHS. Matignon moves on to the semifinal against Mystic Valley.

LHS Coffee House: The Music Department will hold its final Coffee House of the year tonight at 7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.  Coffee Houses are informal evenings in which student musicians perform solo or small group pieces that they have chosen and prepared on their own.  Typically in a Coffee House, both vocal and instrumental work will be presented.  Coffee House admission is $5 and includes refreshments provided by Music Department students.  Proceeds from the event will be used to support the Lynnfield High School Music Department’s programs.  Members of the Lynnfield community are encouraged to attend and enjoy some fine performances.

Lunch And Lecture: Melanoma- What it is. How it appears. How it is diagnosed and how it is treated. Nancy d’Amore from Home Health Foundation will be at the Lynnfield Senior Center Thursday, June 7 at 12:30. Free. Please sign up today. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. for $2/$3. Sign up for lunch by 12 noon the day before. Please sign up separately for the lunch and the lecture.

Reids Ride: Online registration is now underway for the 8th annual Reid’s Ride, which is on July 15, 2012. Cyclists make the 28-mile ride from Lynnfield High School to Stagefort Park in Gloucester and raise money for children’s cancer research. Your local Patch editor plans to do the ride for the second time this year, and based on last year's numbers, about 400 or so others are planning to do it as well. LAA Road Race: Each July 4, the Lynnfield Athletic Assocation holds its annual road race, which is an important source of funding for the high school’s sports programs. Runner can register on-site the day of the race starting at 7:30 a.m., or they can register online in advance. .
