Five Things You Need To Know: June 27

Selectmen meet tonight. Planning Board meeting canceled this week.

Today is Monday, June 27, 2011. Here are five things you need to know:

Selectmen: The selectmen have a meeting tonight at town hall at 7 p.m.

Planning Board: The planning board meeting that was scheduled for June 29 has been cancelled. The next meeting is on Wednesday, July 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the selectmen's room at town hall.

Recycling Stickers: The current green Lynnfield yard waste collection recycling stickers will expire at the end of the week. The new red stickers will be good until June 30 2012. If you need to purchase a new recycling sticker you may do so by stopping by the DPW Office at Town Hall Monday-Thursday 8am-4:30pm., Fridays 8am-3:30pm or from the attendant at the Recycling Center on Saturdays. The cost is $10 ($5 for seniors over 65). Any questions call the DPW Office at 781-334-9500 or email dpw@town.lynnfield.ma.us.

Teen Theatre Workshop: On Monday, young actors and actresses from Lynnfield are encouraged to go to the Lynnfield Library's Teen Theatre Workshop at 6:30 p.m. Participants, ages 10 and up, will meet weekly to prepare for the presentation of a folk tale to be performed at the library and possibly elsewhere in the community.

Killer Asteroid? This report from Space.com says that today, an asteroid the size of a tour bus will pass about 7,500 miles from the Earth's surface. While this sounds too close for comfort, the article notes that a previous close call with an asteroid happened with only about 3,400 miles to spare.
