Five Things You Need To Know: July 2

A look at some upcoming events in and around Lynnfield.

Today is Monday, July 2. Here are five things you need to know.

Mark Your Calendars: Local nonprofit group BKP, which sends donated books for children and teens to libraries in impoverished communities in the Philippines, has announced that Chef Jacky Roberts of Petit Robert Bistro will donate French food to the group’s Halloween fundraising dance this fall, held on Saturday, October 20 at the Wakefield Elks Club, right on the Lynnfield line. Tickets are $35.

LAA Road Race:  From a news perspective, it will likely (and hopefully) be a slow news week in town this holiday week. And from an events perspective, the annual July 4 Lynnfield Athletic Association 5K road race will be one of the highlights. This is a major fundraiser for the LAA, which helps defray the cost of the athletic programs at LHS. Race-day registration is $25 for those over age 17, $20 for those under that age.

Reids Ride: Speaking of big annual events involving physical fitness and fundraising, online registration is now underway for the 8th annual Reid’s Ride, which is on July 15, 2012. Cyclists make the 28-mile ride from Lynnfield High School to Stagefort Park in Gloucester and raise money for children’s cancer research. Your local Patch editor plans to do the ride for the second time this year, and based on last year's numbers, about 400 or so others are planning to do it as well. Big Band Tuesday: On the second Tuesday of the month, the Lynnfield Senior Center hosts the R&R 2000 band, which specializes in big band style music. The next performance there is on Tuesday, July 10 at 9:30 a.m. Lunch will also be served at 11:30 for $3, sign up the day before by noon for that.
