Town yard waste center opens today for Christmas trees.

Today is Tuesday, Jan. 3. Here are five things you need to know.

Classes Resume Today: Lynnfield students are headed back to school today after their holiday break. So drive carefully and think back fondly to days when the annual break ended closer to Martin Luther King Day.

Christmas Tree Dropoff: The DPW Yard Waste Recycling Center will be open (weather permitting) to Lynnfield residents who have current recycling stickers beginning today, January 3rd to Saturday, January 14th from 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. each day, excluding Sunday Jan. 8, to accept Christmas trees. The LHS Swim Team also holds an annual fundraiser each January where they remove Christmas trees for town residents.

Town Business: The Library Board of Trustees meets tonight at 6 p.m. at the library. The School Committee meets at the at 7 p.m.

Pioneer Sports: The boys basketball team is at home against North Reading, with the JV game at 5 p.m. and the varsity game at 6:30 p.m. The girls JV tea plays at North Reading at 5:30 p.m., with the varsity teams playing there at 7 p.m. Also, the JV ice hockey team has an 8:20 p.m. home game (Peabody Rink) scheduled against Shawsheen Tech.

New Zumba Class: Tomorrow (Wednesday) at 9 a.m., the Lynnfield Senior Center introduces a new Zumba exercise class for seniors. $5 per class at the door and individuals are always welcome to observe a class before joining.
