Five Things You Need To Know: Jan. 25

Schools in Lynnfield and across the state observing "No Name Calling Day."

Today is Wednesday, Jan. 25. Here are five things you need to know.

No Name Calling Day: Today in Massachusetts, educators, students and others will observe “No Name Calling Day,” an effort to help address the problem of bullying. At Lynnfield High School, students will see a presentation entitled “The Lesson” by Deana’s Educational Theater.  At the Middle School, students will sign banners marking the day that were created by Arts Intensive students. Teachers are also planning to provide messages of respect and dignity during the day on the PA system.

Super Bowl Raffle: The Torigian Memorial YMCA is having a raffle where two lucky winners will win a trip to the Super Bowl. Tickets are $100 each, but there are only 300 available for each prize package.  Proceeds benefit the YMCA’s Growing Together Youth Campaign. Talk With Tom: The second “Talk With Tom” event for parents to meet and speak with Lynnfield Superintendent of Schools Dr. Thomas Jefferson is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 3 at 9:15 a.m. at Huckleberry Hill Elementary School.

LHS Sports: Today at 6:30 p.m., the wrestling team takes on Cambridge Rindge & Latin in a home meet. At 6:45 p.m., the coed varsity track team has a road meet against Andover and North Reading. And at 8:15 p.m., the varsity hockey team has a home game against Medford.

K-9 Demo: On Friday, Feb. 10 at 8:30 a.m., Lynnfield TRIAD is hosting a team from the Essex County Sheriff’s Department for a K-9 demonstration. Breakfast will be served at 8 a.m. for $3.
