Five Things You Need To Know: Jan. 24

Start digging out your old books, CDs and DVDs - Friends of the Lynnfield Library now seeking donations for annual book drive in May.

Today is Tuesday, Jan. 24. Here are five things you need to know:

FOLL Book Sale: On May 19, the Friends of the Lynnfield Library will hold their annual book sale during the town’s Geraniumfest celebration. While that event is still some distance away, the group has begun accepting donations of books, DVDs and music CDs.  Donations may be left at the library circulation desk, or you can call call FOLL Board Member Alexis Gilbode at 781-608-4179 to arrange to have the donation picked up at your home and for a receipt to be provided.

Calling all Chocolate Lovers – Sunrise of Lynnfield will be at the Lynnfield Senior Center on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 12:30 p.m. to demonstrate how to make chocolate truffles and other goodies with samples for all. There is no charge but sign-up is required at the front desk. Lunch at 11:30 a.m. for $2. Sign up for lunch by noon the day before.

Learn To Skate: The North Shore Skating Club is now accepting registrations for its mid-winter session of classes for ages four through adult. Classes begin on Thursday, Feb. 2 and Saturday, Feb. 4 at Reading’s Burbank Ice Arena. The cost of classes is pro-rated for those who sign up after the first week. Small Business Forum: State Senator Katherine Clark has scheduled a forum for small business owners next month that will focus on ways to use the Internet and social networking to grow business and connect with customers.  The forum is Thursday, Feb. 16 from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Irish American Club, 177 West Street, Malden. This is the latest in a series of small business forums that Clark is holding in her district, which includes Lynnfield.

LHS Sports: The Lynnfield basketball teams are playing North Andover today. The boys junior varsity plays a home game at 5 p.m., while the boys varsity team plays at 6:30 p.m. The girls teams are playing on the road, with the JV game at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity game at 7 p.m. Also, the swim team takes on North Andover tonight as well, at 7 p.m. at the Peabody-Lynnfield YMCA.
