Five Things You Need To Know: Jan. 23

Library ushers in Chinese New Year today at 3:45 p.m.

Today is Monday, Jan. 23. Here are five things you need to know.

Year of the Dragon: This afternoon at 3:45 p.m., the Lynnfield Library holds a Year of the Dragon party to welcome the Chinese New Year.  Bring the kids by for stories and a craft, as well as a snack of dumplings and rice.

Marrow Donors Needed: A student at reportedly needs a bone marrow transplant in his ongoing battle against leukemia. On Thursday, Jan. 26 from 3 to 8 p.m. in the LMS cafeteria, local residents between the ages of 18 and 60 can stop by and join the bone marrow registry, which is as easy as providing a swab on the side of your cheek. Donations are also accepted, and volunteers are needed. To volunteer, contribute or get involved, call Chris at 781-266-8102. For additional information, call Dana Farber at 1-866-875-3324.

Town Business: The Lynnfield Selectmen meet tonight at town hall at 7 p.m.

Talks With Tom: This winter, parents and community members can ask questions and share ideas with Superintendent of Schools Dr. Thomas W. Jefferson at two informal coffee gatherings called Talks With Tom.  The first of these gatherings is  Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 8 a.m. at Lynnfield Middle School. The second one is Friday, Feb. 3 at Huckleberry Hill Elementary School at 9:15 a.m.

Memory Disorder Lecture: This Thursday at 12:30 p.m., Darcy Adams, LICSW at Northeast Senior Health, will explore the critical areas to address when you or a loved one are diagnosed with a memory disorder. Lunch at 11:30 a.m. for $2, sign up at front desk by day before.
