Five Things You Need To Know: Jan. 18

Today at 3:30 p.m., bring the kids by the Lynnfield Library to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as they read his "I Have a Dream" speech from a new picture book.

Today is Friday, January 18th. Here are five things you need to know.

Martin Luther King Jr Birthday Party: Today at 3:30 p.m., the Lynnfield Library is holding a birthday party in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Librarians will read Dr. King’s “I Have A Dream” speech from a new picture book illustrated by Kadir Nelson. Light refreshments will be served.

New Business In Town: Did you see there’s a new business celebrating its grand opening in Lynnfield this weekend? Soon-to-be Lynnfield resident Michelle Powers has opened Centre Yoga in the Centre Court shops in the location formerly occupied by Karen’s Bakery. You can try a free class for yourself at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Michelle will also be offering some 50% off specials for her grand opening. Lynnfield Athletic Association: You can help support the Lynnfield Athletic Association while trying out a new fitness routine. Dina Whalen, LHS grad and owner of Fitness Together Lynnfield, has donated $20,000 in gift cards to help raise funds for an organization that plays an important role for the high school sports programs.  $25 donation gets $100 in services from Fitness Together. Tarzan: Lynnfield Community Schools presents  Disney’s “Tarzan,” with music by Phil Collins, coming up with performance on Friday, Feb. 1 (7 p.m.), Saturday, Feb. 2 (1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.), and Sunday, Feb. 3 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 ($8 for kids and seniors) and performance are at Lynnfield Middle School. Boston Children's Hospital Fundraiser: Local resident Tracy Ellsworth is raising money for Boston Children’s Hospital this spring by running in the Boston Marathon and also with an upcoming comedy night fundraiser at Giggles (in Prince Restaurant) on Route 1 in Saugus. Tickets are $20, the night features three comedians, and unlimited pizza. Proceeds benefit Boston Children’s Hospital. Click here for more information.
