Five Things You Need To Know: Jan. 10

Today is Tuesday, Jan. 10. Here are five things you need to know.

Talks With Tom: Later this winter, parents and community members can ask questions and share ideas with Superintendent of Schools Dr. Thomas W. Jefferson at two informal coffee gatherings called Talks With Tom.  The first of these gatherings is  Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 8 a.m. at Lynnfield Middle School. The second one is Friday, Feb. 3 at Huckleberry Hill Elementary School at 9:15 a.m.

Food For Fines: Through Jan. 20, the Lynnfield Library is running its Food For Fines program. For each non-perishable item brought in to donate, the library will deduct $1 from your overdue book fines. If you bring in boxes of cereal, diapers or containers of baby formula, you get $4 off your fines. (So be sure to start reading very, very slowly).  This will not apply to DVDs and videos or to damaged items.

LHS Sports: Today at 3:30 p.m., the varsity track team has an away meet against Ipswich and Newburyport. Also, the swim team takes on Manchester Essex at 7 p.m. in a home match at the Peabody YMCA.  

Farm Fresh Produce This Summer: For those who didn’t see yesterday’s article on this, the community sponsored agriculture program will be back in Lynnfield this year. A $500 seasonal share nets a box of fresh, locally grown organic produce each week from June until the end of October. .

Volunteer/Donation Opportunity: This Saturday, Jan. 14 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., members of will be preparing their latest batch of donated books to be sent overseas to help stock Filipino libraries. The group accepts donations of books from young readers through high school. Call 781-334-5637 for more information.
