Five Things You Need To Know: Feb. 14

Today is Tuesday, February 14. Here are five things you need to know.

Historical Society: The next meeting of the Lynnfield Historical Society is Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the Old Meeting House. Featured speaker will be Anthony Mitchell Sammarco, a historian, educator and author whose books include "The Baker Chocolate Company: A Sweet History," and "The Great Boston Fire of 1872." The public is welcome to attend.

Comedy Night Fundraiser: For those who didn't see , there are a handful of tickets remaining for a March 1 fundraiser at Giggles Comedy Club that will benefit the family of a young local leukemia patient as well as other young cancer patients currently being treated at Children's Hospital. Tickets for the comedy night fundraiser are $25 per person. Click here for more information.

Mardi Gras: Looking ahead to next week, on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 1:30 p.m., the Lynnfield Library holds a Mardi Gras party for the kids, featuring stories, a mask craft, and a Mardi Gras mambo. King cake, nut-free will also be served. For those unfamiliar with king cake, this is a delicious New Orleans Mardi Gras tradition.

Art In Bloom: Speaking of events that help usher in the spring, here's something else in light of this week's bout with cold temperatures - the annual Art In Bloom event at the library is less than a month away, kicking off on the evening of Monday, March 12.

LHS Sports: Today the schools basketball teams are playing Manchester-Essex. The boys are playing on the road, with the junior varsity game at 5 p.m. and the varsity game at 6:30 p.m. The girls are playing home games, with the junior varsity and varsity games also set for 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Also, the varsity hockey team has an away game at North Reading at 7 p.m.
