Five Things You Need To Know: August 31

Today is Friday, August 31. Here are five things you need to know.

Book Donations Sought: The Friends of the Lynnfield Library are seeking gently used book donations for their upcoming used book sale on October 20. Call 781-608-4179 to arrange a pick-up time for a volunteer to come by and provide a receipt for donations. Bagged and boxed donations can also be left at the Lynnfield Library circulation desk.

OD’s Run/Walk: The 9th annual OD’s Memorial 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for Sunday, September 30. Held in memory of Johnny O’Donnell, the event begins and ends at , with registration starting at 8:30 a.m. and the run/walk starting at 10 a.m. Proceeds benefit the John O’Donnell Memorial Scholarship Fund. Pre-registration is $15 and the day of the event it’s $20.

Lego Night: Coming Wednesday, September 12 from 6 to 7 p.m., the Lynnfield Library holds its first Lego Night for kids. The library provides the Legos.

Flag Football: In conjunction with the Lynnfield Recreation Dept the Summer street school will host NFL Flag Football for boys and girls aged between 5-14 years old on Saturdays between 10am-1pm starting Saturday Sept 22. The NFL 5 on 5 non-contact program runs for 6-8 weeks and includes just one practice and one game per week, practices are typically before the games. Registration is open until Sept 7 and can be done on-line at www.northshoreflagfootball.com. Registration is $100 for the season which includes a minimum 6 games, official NFL FLAG jerseys and belts for each player to keep, football for the team, trophies for the finalists and a certificate of excellence from the NFL.

Save The Date: On Saturday, October 20 from 7 to 11 p.m., local nonprofit group BKP (Bagong Kulturang Pinoy/New Filipino Culture) has a Halloween fundraising dance at the Wakefield Elks Club. The group sends donated books to stock libraries in impoverished communities in the Philippines. Tickets are $35 for adults and $20 for children and will feature dinner by Chef Jacky Roberts of Petit Robert, as well as a Halloween costume contest, auction and raffle, and a DJ and dancing.
