Civil War troops began journey out of Lynnfield 150 years ago this week.

Today is Monday, August 29. Here are five things you need to know.

Clean-up: After DPW is spending the morning cleaning up. Be aware as you drive through town of road closures or other storm impacts and use caution. 

Civil War: 150 years ago this week, members of the 19th Regiment Mass. Volunteer Infantry wrapped up their training at Lynnfield's Camp Stanton and went on to serve in some of the most significant military actions of the Civil War. .

Back To School: Classes at Lynnfield Schools, as well as our Lady of the Assumption, begin for the 2011-2012 school year Wednesday morning, August 31.

Road Work: The town is mostly done with its summer road work, but not quite. Next week, expect some work to still be underway on Salem Street, as well as on Magnolia Terrace.

The Lynnfield Youth Soccer Club:  (LYSC) is still accepting registrations for the Fall 2011 season for it's U6 and U8 age groups. Open registration is until 8/31 and afterwards, a late fee may apply. LYSC is open for Lynnfield residents and is one of the few options available for kids as young as 4 years old (born before 8/1/2007 is the cutoff). To register, go to www.lynnfieldsoccer.com and click "Online Registration". LYSC is also looking for coaches for U6 and U8 teams. If you're interested, register as a coach at the same website and look for the "Coaching/Volunteering Fall 2011" section. There will be a mandatory Coaches Meeting on Wednesday 8/31 at 6pm at the Summer Street School for all U6 & U8 volunteers.
