Five Things You Need To Know: August 14

Several youth recreation activities announced in recent days.

Today is Tuesday, August 14. Here are five things you need to know.

Rotary Chicken Barbecue: One of the town’s longstanding traditions continues next month on the town common. The 46th Annual Lynnfield Rotary Chicken Barbecue is on Tuesday, September 11 from 4:30 to 7 p.m., with a rain date of September 12. Tickets are $6 for a hot dog dinner and $12 for the chicken. As always, the event also includes entertainment and a classic car show.

Constituent Service: Rep. Donald Wong has announced that his next constituent service hour in Lynnfield is August 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at town hall.

Flag Football: In conjunction with the Lynnfield Recreation Dept., the Summer Street School will host NFL Flag Football for boys and girls aged between 5-14 years old on Saturdays between 10am-1pm starting Saturday Sept 22. The NFL 5 on 5 non-contact program runs for 6-8 weeks and includes just one practice and one game per week, practices are typically before the games. Registration is open until Sept 7 and can be done on-line at www.northshoreflagfootball.com. Registration is $100 for the season which includes a minimum 6 games, official NFL FLAG jerseys and belts for each player to keep, football for the team, trophies for the finalists and a certificate of excellence from the NFL.

Cheer Camp: Lynnfield Recreation and the LHS Cheerleaders are holding a cheerleading camp for girls in grades 3-8 this Wednesday,  .

Girls Basketball: Lynnfield Recreation and the LHS girls basketball team have announced Summer Slam 2012, running on Monday and Wednesday nights in August at Lynnfield Middle School. Join players from the LHS girls basketball team for skills, drills and games on August 13, 15, 20, and 22. Session for those in grades 4-6 are 6 to 6:50 p.m., while sessions for those in grades 7-9 run from 7 to 7:50 p.m. Cost is $20 per girl for all four sessions. Participants will receive a free t-shirt and are also asked to bring a ball. For more information, contact Julie Mallett at recreation@town.lynnfield.ma.us.
