Five Things You Need To Know: April 10

With Screen-Free Week coming up, bring the kids to check out storyteller Mark Binder tonight at Lynnfield Library.

Today is Tuesday, April 10. Here are five things you need to know.

Town Election: The town election was last night and voters chose a new selectman, two new school committee members and a new assessor, while also confirming candidates in various uncontested races. Information about the three contested races is featured on this website this morning as of 4:30 a.m., while full results from all races will be provided when they are available.

Storyteller At The Library: This evening at 6:30 p.m., bring the kids by the to hear storyteller Mark Binder. The event is presented by the Huckleberry Hill and Summer Street PTOs in conjunction with the library.

Lynnfield Girls Softball: Registration for Lynnfield Recreation girls softball is this Wednesday, April 11 starting at 6 p.m. at the middle school. The program is for girls in grades 2, 3 and 4 and the fee is $65. Games and practices are at Summer Street School and run from early May to mid-June. LHS Sports: The only listing on today’s Lynnfield High School sports calendar is a boys tennis match at 3:30 p.m. at North Reading.

Lynnfield Marathoners: Various Lynnfielders are running in next week’s Boston Marathon, and many are taking the opportunity to raise money for a cause that’s important to them. Here are some examples - and if you're a Lynnfielder running for a specific cause, email william.laforme@patch.com and we'll see if we can help you get the word out.

- Last month, some may remember reading about Michael DiSilvio, who is in honor of his late mother.

- Shannon Collins is running to raise funds for cystic fibrosis research. This Friday evening, the Brian Maes Band will help her raise funds with an 8 p.m. performance at the Lynn Knights of Columbus Hall, 177 Lynnfield Street in Lynn. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. There will also be raffles and a silent auction – to donate items call 781-820-2108 and leave a message. For more information click here.

- Also, the Ace Bailey Children’s Foundation has several runners participating in this year’s marathon and raising funds to help children in hospitals. Click here for more information.
