T Alerts: If you regularly take the MBTA commuter rail and count on the “T Alert” e-mails and text message updates to let you know when a train is going to be late or is cancelled, you’ll have to sign up for the new system. The T has switched to a new provider that it says will provide more detailed and customized alerts for riders, but it requires any current users to register. Any information from the old system will not be carried over to the new system, which launches on Tuesday.
