Five Things You Need To Know: May 23

Taste of Sunrise, LHS Pops Concert, on the events calendar today.

Today is Wednesday, May 23. Here are five things you need to know.

Taste of Sunrise: On Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the public is welcome to stop by on Salem Street in Lynnfield to learn more about its healthy dining options. Call 781-245-0668 to reserve a spot for lunch at the Taste of Sunrise, and to also take a tour of the community and meet some of its team members.

LHS Pops Concert: On Wednesday, May 23 at 7 pm the Music Department will present its annual Pops Concert, showcasing both its band and choral programs.  Choral groups performing will be under the direction of High School Choral Director Douglas Hodgkins, and instrumental groups will perform under the direction of High School Band Director Thomas Westmoreland.  The concert will be held in the High School Auditorium and is free and open to the public.

Memorial Day Parade: The town’s annual Memorial Day is Monday, starting at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 8:15 a.m. From there, the parade marches to the South Burying Ground on Salem Street and then on to the Willow Cemetery on Summer Street where ceremonies will be conducted at each location. Final ceremonies are expected on the town common around 11 a.m.

Reids Ride: Online registration is now underway for the 8th annual Reid’s Ride, which is on July 15, 2012. Cyclists make the 28-mile ride from Lynnfield High School to Stagefort Park in Gloucester and raise money for children’s cancer research. Your local Patch editor plans to do the ride for the second time this year, and based on last year's numbers, about 400 or so others are planning to do it as well. LHS Sports: Today at 3:30 p.m., the girls varsity tennis team is on the road against Austin Prep. At 3:45 p.m., the varsity and JV baseball teams both play at home against North Reading. Also at 3:45 p.m., the girls varsity and JV softball teams are on the road against North Reading.
