Are You A Martial Artist Outside The Dojo?

Being a Martial artist does not always mean that you are the greatest at punching and kicking. You must be a martial artist both inside and outside of the dojo.

Are you a Martial artist outside the dojo?  What does that mean?  Well, it means many things, but first lets take behavior and attitude inside the dojo. We expect students to respect one another, respect the Sensei's and listen and follow the rules and to be a Martial artist who knows self control and is in training to become a leader.  That being said, does the student behave that way inside the dojo?  As an honest instructor I can say NO, not always, but that what they are here for.  We guide them to the right behavior and they learn some self defense at the same time. They must have the right attitude as well.  I know students who are very well behaved in class, but at home and school is a different story.  That is the reason for "intent to promote" forms that must be filled out prior to exams.  Being a true martial artist requires a good attitude and good  behavior consistent of that used in the dojo displayed all the time.  We are here to assist, and help along the way.  The student and parent must be fully invested in the way of the martial arts in order for them to really reap the true benefits of training.  We must not focus on material, while it is important, we must focus on the individual and building them to be a leader.  So, always ask yourself? Are you a martial artist outside the dojo?  You will be surprised at your answer!    Sensei Janice - cervizzis@aol.com  www.cervizzismartialarts.com
