What's Open on Labor Day in Lynnfield

Find out what's open and closed in Lynnfield on Labor Day.

As Labor Day unofficially marks the last day of summer (it's actually Sept. 21), many businesses and companies around town celebrate the day by trying to go away one last time or have one more barbecue.

The summer is also winding down for Lynnfield students, who began their school year this past week.

Even though Labor Day is a national holiday, that doesn't mean everything in Lynnfield is closed, but if you plan on heading into the town center, here's some advice:

Closed: All town, federal, state and county offices, banks, the post office, the Lynnfield Public Library. There will also be no mail delivery today.

Open: Supermarkets, gas stations, restaurants, convenience stores and retail stores.*

*Keep in mind, a number of the businesses in the downtown area are locally owned and operated, so call before you head over to do some shopping.

If you decide to head into Boston, the MBTA Commuter Line is running on a Sunday schedule. So, for the most part, that means a train will run approximately every three hours if you head over to Wakefield to jump on the train. That goes for both the Wakefield and Greenwood train stations.

The last inbound train leaves the Wakefield station at 10:55 p.m. and at the Wedgemere station three minutes later. The final train of the evening is scheduled to leave North Station and head to Wakefield at 11:30 p.m., so be sure you don't stay out too late.

John Walsh points out in an email, "You forgot about us. The fire stations are staffed on Labor Day." Duly noted, our public safety personnel!
