State Unemployment Rate Edges Higher Than Nation's

The Bay State jobless rate was 7.1 percent in November. That's a bit higher than the national average of 7 percent.

Well, this is a bummer, depending on how you look at it.

For the first time in six years, the state's monthly unemployment rate edged higher than the nation's, reports the Associated Press via CBS Boston. In November, Massachusetts had a jobless rate of 7.1 percent while the country's rate fell to 7 percent.

If you take a glass half-full approach, this could be evidence the nation's economy is starting to catch up with that of the Bay State, which has been consistently ahead the past six years.

The state actually added 6,500 jobs in November. To dive deeper into the numbers, visit the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.
