Skating Rink to Open at MarketStreet Lynnfield

Rink near the welcome center will be in place from Black Friday until late February.

A skating rink is taking shape at MarketStreet Lynnfield this weekend, with a scheduled opening on Black Friday, November 29.

The 50 x 100 foot skating rink will be located on the grassy area behind the welcoming center at MarketStreet Lynnfield. The area will also include a tented area for changing into skates, while the welcome center will also be used to rent skates and sell tickets. In a recent conversation with Lynnfield Patch, Noel Cadorette, Marketing Director of MarketStreet Lynnfield, reported that the rink will hold 5,000 feet of water and use 30,000 feet of tubing. The ice will be capable of staying usable in temperatures up to 70 degrees, he added.

The rink is set to open at 4 p.m. on Black Friday and it's expected to stay at MarketStreet Lynnfield until late February, depending on weather.

Cadorette also indicated that MarketStreet is talking to local clubs and other organizations that could see the rink used for demonstrations, learn to skate events, and other such activities.

"For many, fond memories of sledding and skating with friends and family stir at the first wisps of the crisp New England winter air," said Cadorette in an announcement for the rink. "The change of seasons and the beauty of the outdoors are what make this region so special. And that sense of nostalgia, is what we are creating here at MarketStreet Lynnfield, it's a fun experience for the whole family."
