New Yoga Studio Opens In Lynnfield This Weekend

Meet Michelle Powers, proprietor of the new Centre Yoga in the Centre Court shops.

Lynnfield's newest business, Centre Yoga, will mark its grand opening this weekend.

Proprietor Michelle Powers plans to offer a variety of different yoga techniques at the studio, which is located in the former Karen's Bakery in the Centre Court shops off Main Street. Along with herself at the business, Powers reports that she has also hired "four amazing, great, strong teachers" who she knew from before.

Powers says that she will offer the classes in a fun and relaxing setting. She started practicing yoga about four years ago, she recalled in a recent conversation with Lynnfield Patch, adding that she began working toward becoming an instructor almost immediately.

She has been teaching yoga for three years now and received her 200 hours of training in Hatha yoga but is familiar with styles such as Vinyasa and hot power yoga, among others. "I just like keeping it different, keeping it fun," she said. "I always try to make people laugh."

Before becoming a yoga instructor, Powers worked for 10 years at an oral surgeon's office in Stoneham - but even as a high school student, she knew that a life of working behind a desk was not for her.

"This is a time of life where I'm coming to where I'm supposed to be, my purpose in life," said Powers, adding that she has much to offer others by introducing them to yoga. Along with providing a strong and relaxing workout, yoga can also help with problems from high blood pressure to anxiety to even insomnia, said Powers.

Along with having just opened a new business in town, Powers is also in the process of buying a house in Lynnfield with her family. In fact, she said that during one house hunting trip to Lynnfield, she came across the Centre Court shops and soon inquired about opening her business there. "I've been very busy the last two months," she laughed.

She also brings a motto to her business: "Let it come, let it go, let it flow."

For this weekend's grand opening - Saturday, January 19th and Sunday, January 20th - Powers reports that she will offer free classes at 8 a.m. and at 10 a.m. on both days. Pre-sale classes (5 or more) can also be purchased during this time for 50% off.

"I just want to provide a sense of fun in people's lives. I want them to feel a sense of relaxation and a sense of tranquility," said Powers.
