Gazebo Planned for Lynnfield Common Area

Project is in very early stages - Lynnfield Rotary set to provide financial support for materials, local vocational school students would do the work.

Many details remain to be finalized, but a gazebo may be on or near Lynnfield Common within a year.

Nan Hockenbury, chair of the Lynnfield Historical Commission and the Lynnfield Historical Society, told Lynnfield Patch Monday that the gazebo was initially proposed several years ago and remains in its very early planning stages. Lynnfield selectmen reportedly voted Monday night to have the project go forward, she added.

The Lynnfield Rotary has indicated that it will provide financial support for the project - with the costs primarily limited to the building materials. Students at North Shore Technical High School in Middleton and Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational School in Wakefield could do the design and building work, added Hockenbury.

Whether the gazebo is placed on the actual Town Common, or possibly across South Common Street, remains to be seen. More specific details are expected after the town has had a chance to speak with the two vocational schools about the project, added Hockenbury, adding that the project could hopefully be done by the end of the next school year, when the town will be observing its 300th anniversary.

Also on Monday, Hockenbury reported that the Lynnfield Historical Society has a new website that town residents can use to keep track of upcoming events, such as monthly meetings and the town's upcoming Tercentenary Celebration in 2014. The site, lynnfieldhistoricalsociety.org, can be viewed at this link.
