Broadcast Was A Homecoming Event For Hegedus

Fox 25 weekend anchor Heather Hegedus got to help put her home town in the spotlight.

When TV crews and news personalities from Fox 25 Boston set up their , one of them was enjoying the opportunity to help put her home town in the spotlight for a day.

Heather Hegedus, who became the weekend anchor for Fox 25 back in January, was born in Lynnfield and graduated from LHS, and going back further, LMS and Summer Street School and the Tower Day School. Hegedus' parents still live in Lynnfield and she also has a sister in Boston.

In a brief conversation with Lynnfield Patch between filming segments, Hegedus recalled how while growing up in Lynnfield, she had attended Coach Craig Stone's tennis camp just on the other side of the LMS parking lot, and how she had run into a former coach, Michelle Robert, while visiting town that week. Hegedus said that at LHS, she did track and cheerleading and was also features editor for the school newspaper.

One segment that Hegedus did for the Zip Trip had her visiting some of the town's landmarks, such as town hall and the Old Meeting House, with a group of Lynnfield Girl Scouts.

A number of locals were on hand at the broadcast site to welcome Hegedus, some of them even sporting printed photo masks bearing her likeness. "It's awesome, it's so great to see everyone come out," she said.

The Fox weekend anchor said that she does not typically appear on the other Zip Trip segments, but got in on this one because of her connection to the community.

As a broadcaster, Hegedus reported that she has worked in media markets including Hartford, Binghamton (NY), Syracuse. She has also worked for NY1 News and at NBC's Washington Bureau. A further look at her bio page on Fox 25 finds other accomplishments such as a dean's award from Columbia's Graduate School of Journalism and several awards in 2011 from the Associated Press and from the Society of Professional Journalists.

"It's just been amazing that Fox would take the time and choose Lynnfield as a Zip Trip and come out and highlight what it has to offer," said Hegedus.
