Young Lynnfield Rock Band Making A Name For Itself

Frozen Fire includes four Lynnfield musicians, aged 13, who have been students of well-known local guitarist Kook Lawry.

A Lynnfield rock band consisting of middle school-aged musicians is in the running to compete in an upcoming youth battle of the bands at the Middle East in Cambridge.

The band consists of Reading resident Max South on lead vocals with Andrew Maglio on Keyboards and Vocals, Nathan Frates on Drums, Johannes Elliot on Guitar and Owen Foley on Bass – all from Lynnfield.

The band plays a mix of originals and covers by well-known bands like Green Day and Blink 182.

Parent Tom Maglio told Lynnfield Patch that the young musicians are students of Charles “Kook” Lawry, a fellow Lynnfielder who has long been well established in the region’s music scene. He added that it’s a “great honor and privilege to have someone of Kook's experience and success give so much to our boys.”

Last year, Lynnfield Patch interviewed Lawry around the time he played with both Evolution and with the Brian Maes Band during the town’s summer concert series. Frozen Fire members even played some songs last summer on the common during one of those concerts, said Maglio, and Frozen Fire also recently played a couple of bar mitzvahs and performed at the party following the town’s Cystic Fibrosis Walk. Their first-ever gig was reportedly the year-end picnic at Huckleberry Hill Elementary School several years ago.

Frozen Fire is reportedly competing with six other bands for a shot at the youth battle of the bands, which is on Sunday, June 23. Online votes can be cast through a Facebook app at this link.
