Tonight: Oil Painting With Kathy Cooper

Check out tonight's meeting of the Lynnfield Art Guild, featuring a prominent local artist.

The following is an announcement from the Lynnfield Art Guild:

The Lynnfield Art Guild (LAG) is proud to continue its monthly demonstrations with an oil painting demonstration by local artist Kathy Cooper.  The demonstration, which begins at 7 p.m. on Thursday March 15  will be held at the Lynnfield Senior Center, 525 Salem Street, Lynnfield with doors opening at 6:45 PM and refreshments served.

Kathy Cooper is the President/CEO and signature member of the American Impressionist Society, Inc. (AIS). While she has been painting her entire life, what started as a passion for watercolor turned into a passion for oil. Born and raised in Texas, Kathy Cooper worked in illustrating, marketing, and publishing until she realized she wanted to turn back to the fine art world. Her studies included work with professional artist mentors such as Craig Srebnik Atelier and instruction with Master Impressionist artists Carolyn Anderson, Clayton J. Beck III and C.W. Mundy, among others.

Kathy paints from life en plein air around New England and in her studio in Westford, MA. “Composition is most important to me when I arrange a still life. I like a “lead-in” and a strong area of interest. The softness of the flowers contrast the sharp edges of gold trim and highlights of glass...I’m drawn to color, form, and different textures of subjects… My thought process is always the same, composition, values, form, color and edges. If students in my classes and workshops walk away realizing the importance of the idea, purpose and structure of the painting, I’ve done my job well. So many artists are in search of techniques when what they really need is to learn the fundamentals and to be confident enough to sneak up on the details, to learn to see value and color and to soften those edges.”

Kathy Cooper shows regionally and nationally. Her work has been noted in Southwest Art, Art of the West, Fine Art Connoisseur and American Art Collector. Her work has been described as a delicate balance between the energy and precision of the subject.
